My knowledge of AIR LIQUIDE’s products and my ability to adapt has made it possible for me to change jobs within the Group. It also helps that there are a very large number of trades at AIR LIQUIDE, all centered on Gas. This allowed me to progress from a technical to a commercial position. The organizational structure of AIR LIQUIDE facilitates this kind of mobility.
My responsibilities as Region Director cover 4 areas: sales, administration, logistics and on-site installation. Two managers (Sales, Administration) assist me in managing a team of 40 people. Our main activity is selling packaged gas to industry. We have 600 industrial customers and 8,000 artisan and small business customers. I must be rigorous in my job and manage my sales team well.
I joined AIR LIQUIDE Maroc in 1997 as Industrial Director. In Morocco, AIR LIQUIDE has the image of a solid and active international group. For an engineer, the company is a gold mine of information and technical knowledge. I began my current position in October 1999, based in Casablanca.
I sincerely enjoy the people within AIR LIQUIDE more than anything else. I appreciate the international exposure - literally having the opportunity to interact with people from all over the globe. The diversity of opportunities and challenges within my specific job and the diversity of opportunities to be challenged and contribute over the long-term are very important to me.
Being flexible and striving to constantly foster team spirit have made it possible for me to have many interesting positions in the Group. My previous engineering and project development experience, my accountability and hard work have also been key to my growth.
As Account Manager, I am responsible for sales and business development for Large Industry accounts in the Houston area. We supply oxygen, nitrogen, steam, water and hydrogen by pipeline to chemical and refining customers along the Texas Gulf Coast. Internally, I work with AL Process & Construction, Operations, Pipeline Construction, Legal Department, Tonnage Colleagues, Billing, and Senior Management. My external customers are chemical and refining companies, i.e. ExxonMobil, Chevron, DuPont, etc.
Human relations’ skills, the ability to create a spirit of teamwork that facilitates creative and cost effective solutions, are very critical to what I do. I need to manage priorities while solving existing account problems and developing new business opportunities. Flexibility and innovation to develop optimized customer solutions and to effectively negotiate contracts is key in my job. I must have a customer focus to listen, hear and respond to customer needs while developing synergistic solutions that bring value to AIR LIQUIDE.
The AIR LIQUIDE Group is well known as a serious and trustworthy collaborator, which is helpful for establishing relationships and partnerships. It is very international; there is a lot of interaction among subsidiaries worldwide. Since AIR LIQUIDE is well established in many application areas, technical support is plentiful.
As R&D Engineer, I work primarily on project management and establishing an R&D program. My team tracks relationships with university and industrial partners and keeps a database of published material and patents. I do a lot of internal communication and create presentations adapted to heterogeneous audiences such as R&D, marketing and field teams. I am in touch with R&D managers, marketing and industrial teams. In the future, I may also work with people from hospital and service sectors.
Prioritizing, information gathering and analyzing and being curious help me do my job well. It is important to know how to evaluate project parameters, to build a team and to obtain needed skills internally or externally. I need to be a good communicator, both orally and in writing, to inform and convince the people I work with.
I have a lot of freedom in project planning and managing my time, while providing deliverables on time. I like helping AIR LIQUIDE develop its services in a field that interests me - the environment and individual health.
I appreciate the autonomy I have had to conduct my missions within the Group. I have often had managers who brought me real added value and delegated many responsibilities to me. I have had seven different jobs in ten years with AIR LIQUIDE, and sometimes two at the same time! The high level of ethics of the people I interact with is also very important to me.
AIR LIQUIDE has a special mix of characteristics. The human dimension is always considered; people are regarded as such, and not only as time resources or cost lines. The Group is very rich in terms of businesses, cultures and activities. It is constantly changing, in a steady, even way. AIR LIQUIDE is open to innovation and at the same time focused on core competencies.
In my job I need to bring together a very heterogeneous, multicultural group of people to stream ideas, reach a consensus and transform it into decision and action. Communicating enthusiasm and building momentum in and around the projects is very important. I enjoy what I do because I work with a highly motivated and friendly team. I also like developing new skills around e-business. My current assignment as E-Procurement Manager requires a global vision of the whole Group, and the added value of the solutions we are bringing to people is very rewarding.

As Project Leader e-business, I analyze all e-business opportunities and identify projects that could be developed in the Group and in AL Italy. I plan and implement e-business projects in cooperation with AL Italy departments and the corporate e-business team. We implement web-based e-initiatives in order to achieve 5 goals: Strengthen customer relationships and provide more personalized services to our customers, develop e-commerce, initiate new joint-business opportunities and partnerships, Integrate the supply chain, and optimize internal efficiency by helping employees work independently through online tools and applications. I have a lot of contact with AL sales, purchasing, marketing and HR. I also work with existing and potential AIR LIQUIDE customers.
Project management, teamwork and team leadership are important skills for me. I need to be innovative and practical at the same time. I really enjoy working with an international team and the challenge of building a new work philosophy and a new business starting from scratch. This is the hottest job in business today.
