Emmanuelle, engineering manager  [ Return towards  Our employees' stories  ]

After a position in R&D and in the Human Resources department, she is currently in charge of Engineering sites activities in France.

Managing an organization with adequate human/financial/material resources

What has your career path been at Air Liquide ?
Attracted by the business diversity and the career path opportunities, I joined Air Liquide after working in the Oil&Gas industry for 10 years. I started as R&D Group Manager focused on petrochemical and combustion applications. Then, I was appointed Human Resources project manager. Such move is quite unusual for engineers and yet, thanks to it, I seized the opportunity to gain valuable insight into the Group’s Human Resources polices and business strategy. Recently, I joined the Group’s engineering branch. So far it has been an overwhelmingly rewarding assignment, allowing me to alternate functional and operational roles.

What is your current position ?
I am in charge of Sites Activities within Air Liquide Engineering in France. I manage the team responsible for supervising construction and commissioning of our plants. This group brings together seasoned technical experts as well as younger supervisors. The essence of my role therefore boils down to managing people: recruiting, developing and coaching of these supervisors who for most of the year remain scattered all over the world. Consequently, my daily tasks add up to ensuring a suitable organization, with adequate human, financial and material resources that achieve safe, reliable and efficient execution of construction and commissioning activities.

What are you the most satisfied with ?
It is a concrete job, with short- and middle-term objectives. Each day infuses its dose of surprises, concerns and unforeseen situations to manage! After 7 years with Air Liquide, what I most appreciate is the autonomy, the trustworthy environment and willingness to push forward. Finally, I have fun in my job, and it’s the most important thing!
