Environment  [ Return towards  Innovation  ]

Industrial emissions make our environment more fragile and have a harmful impact on the evolution of climate and human health. Air Liquide researchers are developing solutions to limit these emissions.

Oxygen for cleaner combustion

To limit nitrous oxide emissions, the research teams design burners that use oxycombustion. These burners already equip different industrial furnaces that produce glass, for example.

Reducing CO2 emissions

Over the longer term, the Group’s teams contribute to the development of processes for CO2 capture and storage. This means designing oxycombustion recycling and purification technologies to produce fumes that are more concentrated in CO2.

These technologies will enable CO2 to be more efficiently captured in order to bury it in the subsoil. They are being tested in pilot projects to generate power using coal or to limit emissions  from steel mills.

And also...

The Group’s researchers are improving processes for producing hydrogen, an essential molecule for removing sulfur from fuels. In this way, they help limit sulfur oxide emissions that are responsible for acid rain and respiratory problems.

Another development from the Group’s R&D teams: ASPAL Cool. The removal of tartar from cooling towers generally requires an acid, rejecting harmful emissions. ASPAL Cool uses CO2 instead of the acid, suppressing acid emissions.
