Around the world, Air Liquide is developing medical gases used in the treatment of numerous pathologies. These gases are considered as drugs and treated as such.
As soon as they are produced, medical gases are stored in special tanks or containers after pharmacist sign-off. The containers are linked to our pharmaceutical laboratories, where every batch is tracked and then packaged into smaller cryogenic containers or bottled as gases and delivered to hospitals or patients’ homes.
Great care is taken in the implementation of these medical gases. To ensure a high level of traceability, the storage cylinders containing them are equipped with optical scanning systems to ensure that every medical gas can be tracked wherever it goes.
Oxygen, nitrous oxide, nitrogen monoxide and xenon all have specific healthcare applications.
In addition to delivering medical gases to hospitals and patients’ homes, Air Liquide also provides home healthcare services to more than 700 000 patients suffering from chronic and acute conditions (respiratory ailments, diabetes, etc.). The Group also produces a broad range of disinfectants used by healthcare professionals (for hands, operating tables, medical instruments, etc.) and antiseptics that promote healing in lesions.
