Developing Economies [ Return towards  Long-term growth  ]

Capturing the growth of new markets

Developing economies are building new production capacities and industrial infrastructures. The Group is pursuing its development there. Today, Developing economies amount to more than 80% of the Group's investment opportunities portfolio.

Growing gas needs

Heavy industries (steel, oil, chemicals, etc.), which drove Advanced economies’ development in the past, are booming in Developing economies today.

The result: the market for industrial gases is rapidly expanding in regions:

  • Middle East, where Air Liquide has strongly grown.
  • In China, where industrialists are increasingly outsourcing their gas needs.

The Group is working on standardizing its production units. Standardized production units, which are more compact, easily assembled  and rapidly delivered to clients, are essential to the local and global growth of Air Liquide’s activities.

Diversified gas needs

In addition to the Large Industries WBL, Developing economies require gases in other sectors, such as health, automotive, food and beverage, and electronics. Air Liquide provides these sectors with specialty gases, welding gases, etc.

In the Industrial Merchant field, the Group acquired Al Khafrah, a Saudi Arabian company; in 2009.
