Electromagnetic Inert Wave Soldering Retrofit Solder Pot

The K-IN2ERTWAVE™ system is a complete solder pot assembly designed to adapt wave soldering equipment for lead-free alloys processing. The system combines Kirsten Soldering patented electromagnetic technology and AIR LIQUIDE’s award winning inerting technology.

Legislative forces in Europe (lead ban on 01.01.2006) and marketing forces worldwide are now stimulating the adoption of lead-free soldering in electronics manufacturing. Lead-free alloys are more earth friendly alternative, however they are far more difficult to solder. In addition, upgrades and changes to the soldering processes and wave equipment are required. One of these changes is the use of solder pot and nozzles which are resistant to the corrosive elements of the new alloys. Another modification is the use of inert atmosphere, necessary to improve the reduced solderability and to prevent costly dross generation.

The K-IN2ERTWAVE™ system is based on an electromagnetic wave technology, a technology developed by Kirsten and installed in several systems around the world. With this technology, solder is pushed through the nozzle by the magnetic force created by an induced current. The solder is the only moving part. This result in a flexible wave, with high reach, which produce extremely low dross levels when used with nitrogen.

The K-IN2ERTWAVE™ system comprises of a cast iron solder pot, titanium nozzles, a nitrogen injection system, a pot extraction system, and all associated controls. The system is compact and can be retrofitted to virtually for all brands of solder. The installation is simple and is performed typically in less than 4 hours. This system makes it affordable to covert an existing wave soldering machine for lead-free while avoiding the purchase of a new equipment.
