Tranportation under Controlled Temperature  [ Return towards  Applications  ]

For the transportation of products under controlled temperature, Air Liquide has developed different processes (CARBOFRESH, PROMOCARBO, CO2 CYCLONE) using Dry Ice and CO2 snow.

• Average & large scale distribution

average & large scale distribution

All our processes use solid CO2 (snow or dry ice) to cool down foodstuffs and pharmaceuticals during transportation. Through slow sublimation, solid CO2 (-80°C) generates the cold gas flow necessary foodstuffs.

The solid CO2 is put in an isotherm container for both fresh or frozen products, or in a covered roll for fresh products. Fresh products are thus maintained at a temperature between +2°C and +6°C and frozen products at a temperature less than -18°C.

This ensures food quality compliance criteria and Pharmacopoeia during transportation are met.

• Home delivery

home delivery

This covers mail-order selling, shop delivery and e-commerce.

Foodstuffs are transported in 40 to 50 liter plastic modules. In these modules, there is an isotherm cover in to which dry ice is introduced.

This process maintains temperatures for:

24 hours for fresh products
10 hours for frozen products

• Cash & carry

This market comprises wholesale food distribution to industry professionals.

Dry ice is used in pellet form to maintain temperatures between wholesaler, shop and retail outlet (restaurant,…)

• Catering

This field covers preservation of food served as dishes on planes or trains.

Dry ice or on site CO2 snow systems are used to keep temperatures at the right level after trolleys have been taken out of refrigerated storage.
