Oxycombustion

Combustion results from the collision of oxygen and combustible molecules.

• Principle

Air is used in most part of industrial combustion as an oxidizing agent.
It has a high nitrogen conten (N2 : 79 % ; O2 : 21 % et Ar) which strongly reduces the probability of collision between oxygen and combustible molecules. Nitrogen is useless thermal ballast.

Our combustion solutions can be used to achieve four main targets in industrial applications. Their importance depends on the oxygenation ratio :

- Improving thermal yield
- Improving heat transfer
- Improving combustion flame characteristics
- Reducing the volume of fumes

Oxygen combustion solutions

There are three major technologies used to enrich the oxygen in the oxidizing agent :

  • Global enrichment of combustion air :
The oxygen is added to the combustion air before the mixture reaches the fire zone. This is the least expensive solution.

  • Local enrichment by using a lance :
The oxygen is injected using lances that generate optimum heat transfer towards the molten product.

  • Oxy-fuel burners :
The oxidizing agent contains only oxygen. This solution can be used when the product has a high specific power. We have developed ALGLASS™ burners specifically for this situation.
