Supercritical CO2 Extraction

Applications
]
Using supercritical CO2 for extraction has been developed since the 80's to be mature nowadays. This technique enables to obtain trully pure organic extracts without any trace of solvent. This is particularly adapted to the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries for the extraction of active substrates and fragrances.

For product separation in chromatography or molecule extraction, supercritical CO2 leads to consistent savings compared to the classical processes.
Carbon dioxide shows numerous assets as well :
- Non toxic
- Cheap
- A low chemical reactivity
- Critical conditions easy to perform (31 °C and 73.8 bar)
- A high diffusion coefficient and low viscosity.
