Lyophilizator

A lyophilizator is quite a unique piece of equipment because it needs to cool (for freezing and trapping water), create a vacuum (to sublimate water), generate heat and transfer heat energy to the product.
Equipment includes:
- An airtight pressurised vacuum chamber, which must also be able to withstand high temperature variations (from -80°C during lyophilization to +123°C during sterilization)
- A collection vessel (or condenser), which can be placed within the chamber or in a separate vessel. This is where the water vapour turns into ice
- A number of heat/cold exchangers, within which a heat transfer fluid circulates
- A pumping group for lowering the pressure within the chamber
- Cold is generated by the refrigeration groups, i.e. using liquid nitrogen
- A regulation and control box for operating the lyophilizator
