Industrial Merchant holds its first internal hackathon at the Gas Packaging Center

In May, the Industrial Merchant (IM) business line organized its first internal hackathon to generate innovation projects and ideas supporting the Automotive and Fabrication markets.

Employees of 10 nationalities from the Group’s four Hubs (Europe, Americas, Asia Pacific as well as the Middle East and Africa) gathered at the Paris Saclay Research Center’s Gas Packaging Center for two days.

The 33 participants were grouped into five competing teams, each with a mix of expertise in business development, ALTEC (IM’s network of technical experts), marketing, sales, IT, R&D, logistics and operations. They responded to challenges through the realisation of very creative Proof of Concepts (PoC). The three challenges “Fly-by-data”,  “Coolclean” and “Count the Stars” were defined  according to previously identified customer pain points and/or customer “delights”.

On the second day, the teams presented their PoCs to a jury consisting of IM management, Innovation Communications and Research & Development, who selected the three winning teams on the following criteria:

  • unique business value for customers
  • impact on Air Liquide’s competitiveness and ability to grow responsibly
  • cost
  • ease of implementation
  • quality of presentation before the jury.

In the next step, IM market and product representatives will accompany the winning PoCs in the innovation project development process. Projects can also benefit from an R&D program.

This new way of working and innovating aims to create more value for customers by leveraging the diversity, agility and creativity of Air Liquide’s teams.
