Our story

Entering China in 1916, Air Liquide operates nearly 90 plants in over 40 cities with more than 4,000 employees nationwide today. Its main business includes industrial and medical gas operations, Engineering & Construction via Global E&C Solutions division, as well as innovation activities by advanced Business & Technologies and Shanghai Research & Technology Center. With a strong presence in the key coastal industrial areas, Air Liquide is further expanding into the center, south and west of China.

Creative Oxygen, our signature

Creative Oxygen is the signature we use in every country in which we are present. The word creative conveys the permanent capacity for invention on the part of Air Liquide’s employees, while the word oxygen is a reminder of Air Liquide’s history. Oxygen is the source of the Group’s development and is a vital resource for industry and health. More than just a molecule, oxygen is a source of inspiration for our employees, who are working to create new applications, for existing markets and those of tomorrow.


Boasting 1,100 researchers of 35 nationalities, Air Liquide carries out its R&D in 9 centers around the world. With an annual budget of nearly 300 million euro for innovation, R&D and technology, the Group files around 300 new patents every year. Furthermore, by working closely with prestigious universities and leading industrial partners, Air Liquide continuously improves its gas production technologies and develops new applications and services.

In 2016, Air Liquide opened Shanghai Research & Technology Center (SRTC) in China. With experienced researchers and experts as well as advanced equipment, SRTC enables Air Liquide to enhance innovative R&D work in China and foster its collaborations with local renowned universities and public institutes in China. It helps Chinese customers and consumers benefit from Air Liquide’s innovative solutions and global innovation network to tackle environmental and societal challenges.

Corporate social responsibility

Responsibility is at the core of Air Liquide China. The company is devoted to developing local economies, protecting life and the environment, and contributing to communities not only through its innovative products and solutions, but also CSR initiatives. Under its Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) umbrella program called “Air Liquide Care”, Air Liquide China promotes such initiatives as “Marathon First Responder Volunteer”, “Green Action” and “Air Liquide Computer Classroom”.

“Marathon First Responder Volunteer”

Is a new CSR program rolled out in China in 2016. It aims to raise employees’ sense and capability of emergency rescue, as well as to encourage them to contribute to local communities and protecting life.

Green Action

"Green Action"

Is an annual nationwide tree-planting campaign in China since 2009. The initiative aims to raise Air Liquide China’s employees’ environmental protection awareness. In 2016, over 600 employees and their family members from 58 sites in 35 cities in China participated in the campaign locally, planting a total of over 1,700 trees.

Air Liquide Computer Classroom

"Air Liquide Computer Classroom"

Is an annual initiative through which the company provides recycled computers and other school supplies to help primary school students in rural areas since 2002. This program aims to ensure students’ access to computers as a means for equipping them with essential knowledge and skills for the digital era. By 2016, there have been six “Air Liquide Computer Classrooms” established across China.

  • Air Liquide China received the“2016 Best Brand Image” award at the 5th China Finance Summit held in Beijing
