On November 14, the Bayport Complex in Pasadena, Texas, celebrated its long and illustrious history with an onsite celebration that included more than 100 present and former Air Liquide employees, customers, and government officials. Chairman and CEO American Air Liquide Holdings, Inc. and Executive Vice President, Air Liquide S.A. Mike Graff, and LyondellBasell Executive Vice President of Global Manufacturing, Projects and Refining, Dan Coombs, gave short speeches during the afternoon celebration in honor of the historic achievements and the employees who made them possible over the last half century.
In 1968, Big Three Industries Inc. (acquired by Air Liquide in 1986) purchased 48 acres of land to build what would become Air Liquide’s largest industrial gas distribution facility in North America. This year marks its landmark anniversary of 50 years operating, serving customers, and supporting the local community.
“Today is a special day for Air Liquide as we celebrate 50 years of safe, reliable operations at the Air Liquide Large Industries Bayport Complex. Over the years, Air Liquide has remained committed to the Bayport Complex: upgrading and growing operations to safely and reliably provide innovative solutions to our customers, while cultivating a customer-centric approach to help them achieve their goals; developing people, by supporting continuous growth for our employees and giving back to our Bayport neighbors and community partners; and constantly innovating so as to meet the challenges of tomorrow."

Today the Bayport Complex is unique as compared to all other Air Liquide facilities globally. It is the only facility to have onsite air separation units, cogeneration units, boilers, industrial water treatment and a steam methane reformer. It has long served as the heart of the company’s Gulf Coast operations — supplying product to our customers via our extensive pipeline and many more by truck and rail, but none of its success would be possible without the men and women dedicated to ensuring the plants are operating safely and serving their customers.
“Both LyondellBasell and Air Liquide are focused on teamwork, open communications, safety and reliability,” said Dan Coombs. “We congratulate Air Liquide on 50 years of operations in Bayport and wish them continued success in the future.”
In addition to their dedication on the job, Air Liquide employees at the Bayport plant show that same dedication to their local community.
Over the past 50 years, Air Liquide employees have created a real sense of community pride and support local initiatives. They are actively involved with various charitable and volunteer activities including building local homes with Habitat for Humanity, donating holiday gifts to the Boys and Girls Harbor and supporting the La Porte Education Foundation. Air Liquide also participates in the La Porte Citizens Advisory Council and the La Porte Plant Manager’s Network.
“Air Liquide has been good to me and my family over the years,” said Dale Golden, a 43-year Air Liquide Bayport plant employee. “A lot has happened here over the years, and I am proud to be a part of this company and its success at Bayport.”
