"The Earn & Learn Program has given me a good opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the industry while increasing my professional knowledge & technical skills."
"I first heard of the SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programme (ELP) during my polytechnic days, when I was pursuing a Diploma in Chemical Engineering. When I was accepted into the ELP, my parents were delighted albeit not quite supportive of me working 12 hour shifts. My mother felt that I would be tired out from the long working hours while coping with my studies. It took me some time to convince her that I enjoyed what I was doing and it was not such a tiring job as she imagined it to be. After seeing how passionate I am about my job, she is now a big supporter of my job and would often asked how my day at work was.
It has been an enriching experience in Air Liquide and I get to learn new skills and challenge myself to outdo my expectations. My supervisor and colleagues have never failed to give me moral support and answers to my never ending questions about work. They would also show me how to perform the tasks efficiently and allowed me to have hands-on exposure under their supervision.
Ever since I embarked on this journey, I have gained a deeper understanding of the industry and the job nature. I am inspired to continue this career path where I see myself working as an Engineer."

"Although I was an intern at the plant for six months, I was treated as a regular employee with great responsibilities and projects assigned to me."
Goh Wayne , Singapore Institute of Technology, Chemical Engineering
“My internship in Air Liquide as an Operations Engineer was highly rewarding. Although I was an intern at the plant for six months, I was treated as a regular employee with great responsibilities and projects assigned to me. While it was challenging and intimidating, this exposure allowed me to learn aplenty - greater than what I had expected to takeaway from this experience.
Overall, despite having a steep learning curve as a new member, I am thankful for this internship opportunity at Air Liquide as well as for my supervisor and colleagues at Large Industries (LI) that were fun, patient and nurturing.”
“My internship as an Operations Engineer with the GlobalFoundries Tank Farm team was both enriching and exciting! Under the supervision of my team lead, I was able to spearhead process improvement projects and partake in the daily operational works at the plant. Furthermore, everyday brought along different challenges and opportunities for honing my technical, problem-solving and communication skills.
All in all, I am blessed to have this internship experience with Air Liquide as well as my supportive supervisors, namely Chin Jian Hau and Rakesh Raveendran who have guided me throughout this attachment. Thank you ALSg!”

In 2018, Fadzly Affendifrom Nanyang Technological University was given the opportunity to participate in our International Internship Programme in Taiwan with ALFE. Read Fadzly's testimonial here to learn more about his experience in Taiwan.
"These six-month internship experience has given me an insight into the commercial and operational aspects of the chemical industry."
Fadzly Affendi , Nanyang Technological University, Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering
"During my internship with Air Liquide Singapore (ALSg), I was honoured to be selected for their International Internship Program (IPP), where I was posted to Air Liquide Far Eastern (ALFE) in Taiwan for 2 months.
In ALFE, I was posted to the Business Development team in the Electronics Division. Coming from an engineering background, this was a totally new environment for me. However, I was glad to have received guidance from my colleagues, which had enabled me to handle the tasks with confidence. One of the challenging tasks which I had to address was a quality issue raised by one of their customers and I was able to resolve the issue through the application of my engineering concepts. Apart from that, I was also tasked to conduct a regional survey for the carrier gases market, in order to establish ALFE’s leadership in the region.
Back in Singapore, I was posted to one of their Air Separation Plants in Jurong Island, as an Operations Engineer. I was tasked to ensure plant optimization by implementing trip abatement principles to prevent unnecessary trips. My other responsibilities include daily operations of the plant and maintenance activities.
These six-month internship experience has given me an insight into the commercial and operational aspects of the chemical industry. It has also given me the confidence to pursue a career as an engineer in the future. It was an invaluable experience, and one that I would recommend my juniors to apply for.

"The Summer School Programme was the highlight of my 6 month internship at Air Liquide. This trip was truly eye opening as it furthered my understanding of Air Liquide’s business model on a global scale."
Chen Xikai , National University of Singapore, Chemical Engineering
"The Summer School Programme was the highlight of my 6 month internship at Air Liquide. This trip was truly eye opening as it furthered my understanding of Air Liquide’s business model on a global scale.
Throughout the programme, I was privileged to have attained insight into the business activities of Air Liquide as the various business lines shared topics on their functions, contributions, future prospects and career opportunities. It was also heartening to learn about Air Liquide’s heavy emphasis and array of projects launched to support local communities, empower less-developed countries and push for the green agenda.
During this programme, I witnessed and visited sites which showcased the innovative and futuristic characteristics of Air Liquide. Together with my cohort, we toured the Air Liquide R&D (Research and Development) Centre, iLAB - the research centre that creates innovative business projects, as well as hydrogen charging stations for hydrogen-powered vehicles at the heart of Paris.
Finally, to wrap up the programme, I had an exciting opportunity to work in international teams with my cohort by presenting a business case to the Senior Management. This experience was enriching as I interacted and worked extensively alongside different nationalities. Through the exposure to direct input from the Senior Management and thought-provoking discussions with my teammates, my internship stint at Air Liquide was extraordinary."
"The Air Liquide Summer School Programme, which was held at the Head Office in Paris, had given me the opportunity to better understand Air Liquide’s business and its operations around the world. Besides presentations and site visits, we were also given a business case study to promote the Air Liquide Foundation to both internal and external stakeholders.
Everyone was divided into teams and I had the opportunity to work with interns from Poland, Saudi Arabia and South Korea. We had to present our proposal to a panel consisting of members of the Foundation and staff coordinators for the Summer School. It was an interesting experience for me as we had to “sell” our ideas to the panel, in order to get their buy-in.
The Programme was an eye-opening experience for me and I am thankful to Air Liquide Singapore for providing me with this once-in-a lifetime opportunity. The memories and experiences that I had gathered during this trip will stay with me for life.
Diversity is at the core of Air Liquide’s business. We believe in harnessing the enormous potential of our women to create a more inclusive and diverse environment, where different perspectives and experiences are welcomed.
Meet the women who work in Air Liquide and hear how they thrive and make a difference.
"I am glad to have supportive bosses who believe in my potential and care about my development in the company.”
Angeline Ang , Manager, QMS & Product Quality, Electronics
"I began my career in Air Liquide as a Chemist in 2008 and today, I am a Manager for our Electronics Quality Department. I enjoy working here because I am able to work with a diverse group of people as well as being involved in different projects. I am glad to have supportive bosses who believe in my potential and care about my development in the company.
In 2018, I am recognized as an International Technical Expert by the Group, which is a huge honour and milestone for me. I look forward to many more rewarding experiences and sharing them with my colleagues in the future."
In 2015, I did my internship with the Electronics division and was honoured to be selected for the Air Liquide Summer School. Upon graduation, I came onboard as a Management Associate and have since completed my two job rotations as a Project Engineer in Engineering Projects & Solutions division and a Product Engineer in Industrial Merchant division.
In Air Liquide, women are given an equal platform to showcase our talent and to contribute to the Group’s success. The flexible work culture also gave me the freedom on time management towards meeting my deliverables. I hope to inspire and motivate the next generation of female engineers to step forward and not detract from your passion because of gender stereotypes.
"My responsibilities as a Marketing Manager include providing solutions to doctors and patients in the sleep and respiratory care sector. In Air Liquide, women are given equal opportunities as men and we are recognised for our contributions rather than our gender. I was attracted to join Air Liquide in 2017 due to its stringent process control and ability to produce quality products for the Healthcare industry. Being in Air Liquide where its products and services improve customers’ health fuels me everyday.
It is always a challenge to strike a balance between career demands and family responsibilities. I am appreciative of Air Liquide’s Flexible Work Hours policy which allows me to balance work with family."
"The belief that women are less adept at engineering is unfounded. In Air Liquide, female and male engineers are given an equal platform to showcase our talents. I started my career in Air Liquide as an intern back in 2011 and was selected for the International Internship Program (IIP), where I was privileged to work in Paris within the Healthcare division.
After graduation, I joined as an Operations Engineer to manage one of our Air Separation plants. Even though it is a male-dominated industry, I work alongside passionate colleagues who are willing to share their knowledge. Despite a tough environment, it brings me immense satisfaction to have contributed to the Group’s achievements. Air Liquide’s usage of digital tools has also enabled me to work from home, which allows me to balance work with family."
