"My internship as an Operations Engineer with the Large Industries Division was a challenging yet rewarding experience."
Alvis Cheong , Nanyang Technological University, Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering
"My internship as an Operations Engineer with the Large Industries Division was a challenging yet rewarding experience. Initially, I was worried that I would not be able to fit into the operations environment but these worries were unfounded. My colleagues were patient and helpful and I assimilated into the Air Liquide culture quickly.
I was involved in many projects and through these projects, I developed technical expertise and soft skills. Working in Air Liquide was not always about work. I had fun moments with my colleagues through activities such as dragon boating, playing badminton as well as other activities that the recreation club organized."
"My internship as a Process Engineer with the Electronics Division had provided me with valuable experiences which I won’t be able to gain as a student. I spearhead the “E-Logging and E-Checklist” Project, which was a challenge to me as I had no prior knowledge in coding. Fortunately, after much research, troubleshooting and guidance from my colleagues, I managed to implement the project and it was well-received by my colleagues.
I enjoyed my internship in Air Liquide as I was not only able to experience the role and responsibilities of a Process Engineer but also able to pick up the numerous soft skills along the way."
The Air Liquide Group enables students preselected by Air Liquide entities to do an internship in one of the 80 countries where Air Liquide is present, in order to enhance their personal and professional competencies. The length of this programme is between 2 to 6 months, and can be adapted depending on the structure and needs of participants.
This programme provides a unique experience for students to become masters of their career development and flourish as talented young professionals.
In 2017, Bryan from Nanyang Technological University was given the opportunity to participate in our International Internship Programme in Taiwan with ALFE. Read Bryan's testimonial here to learn more about his experience in Taiwan.
"I truly enjoyed my time at Air Liquide – both in Taiwan and Singapore because of the camaraderie between my colleagues and friendly workplace."
Bryan Chin , Nanyang Technological University, Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering
"I was very fortunate to be selected for the International Internship Program (IIP) by Air Liquide Singapore (ALSg) for my Industrial Attachment (IA). During my IA, I had the opportunity to intern as a Business Analyst for the Electronics Division in Air Liquide Far Eastern in Taiwan and as an Operations Engineer for the Large Industries Division in ALSg.
During my attachment in Taiwan, I was tasked to analyse sales data across the Electronics Market in Taiwan and present my findings to the management. I also worked with the various departments - Business Development, Finance and Operations, to create a platform for consolidated future data analysis and forecasting.
Back in Singapore, I was tasked to optimize plant operation costs through the recovery and recycling of system condensate; and it was through this project that I got to experience the operations environment first-hand.
I am extremely grateful to be able to work in two completely different, yet closely interrelated fields. I believe with a good understanding of the operational groundwork and management perspectives of the business would enable me to perform in my job as an engineer.
I truly enjoyed my time at Air Liquide – both in Taiwan and Singapore because of the camaraderie between my colleagues and friendly workplace. Air Liquide's confidence in its young talent also gave me the courage to challenge the status quo. It was definitely an invaluable experience, and one that I would highly recommend my peers to apply for."
"The Air Liquide Summer School Programme, which was held at the Head Office in Paris, had given me the opportunity to better understand Air Liquide’s business and its operations around the world. Besides presentations and site visits, we were also given a business case study to promote the Air Liquide Foundation to both internal and external stakeholders.
Everyone was divided into teams and I had the opportunity to work with interns from Poland, Saudi Arabia and South Korea. We had to present our proposal to a panel consisting of members of the Foundation and staff coordinators for the Summer School. It was an interesting experience for me as we had to “sell” our ideas to the panel, in order to get their buy-in.
The Programme was an eye-opening experience for me and I am thankful to Air Liquide Singapore for providing me with this once-in-a lifetime opportunity. The memories and experiences that I had gathered during this trip will stay with me for life.
"The Summer School Programme was one of the most unforgettable experiences in my life. A myriad of activities accompanied by 27 students from 21 countries.
The Programme included introductions on the respective businesses of Air Liquide, visits to an operating site to understand the operations of Air Liquide and the R&D lab to see the innovations that Air Liquide has developed. I had a better understanding of how Air Liquide works as an entity as well as the opportunities available in the various businesses. It was great to discover Air Liquide is also involved in giving back to the community through its Foundation and developing innovations through its iLab. To be able to see the technology and innovations up close was incredibly rewarding.
In addition to the presentations and site visits, we also had to work as a team on a business case given by iLab. This business case made the summer school much more fun as we had to interact with one another, making friends along the way. I also explored Paris with this group of new friends and it was just so much fun hanging out with them.
Air Liquide Summer School Programme was an unforgettable experience for me. I am really honoured and privileged to be able to join this programme."
Diversity is at the core of Air Liquide’s business. We believe in harnessing the enormous potential of our women to create a more inclusive and diverse environment, where different perspectives and experiences are welcomed.
Meet the women who work in Air Liquide and hear how they thrive and make a difference.
"I am glad to have supportive bosses who believe in my potential and care about my development in the company."
Angeline Ang , Assistant Manager, Quality, Electronics
I began my career in Air Liquide as a Chemist in 2008 and today, I am an Assistant Manager for our Electronics Quality Department. I enjoy working here because I am able to work with a diverse group of people as well as being involved in different projects. I am glad to have supportive bosses who believe in my potential and care about my development in the company.
In 2018, I am recognized as an International Technical Expert by the Group, which is a huge honour and milestone for me. I look forward to many more rewarding experiences and sharing them with my colleagues in the future.
In 2015, I did my internship with the Electronics division and was honoured to be selected for the Air Liquide Summer School. Upon graduation, I came onboard as a Management Associate and have since completed my two job rotations as a Project Engineer in Engineering Projects & Solutions division and a Product Engineer in Industrial Merchant division.
In Air Liquide, women are given an equal platform to showcase our talent and to contribute to the Group’s success. The flexible work culture also gave me the freedom on time management towards meeting my deliverables. I hope to inspire and motivate the next generation of female engineers to step forward and not detract from your passion because of gender stereotypes.
My responsibilities as a Marketing Manager include providing solutions to doctors and patients in the sleep and respiratory care sector. In Air Liquide, women are given equal opportunities as men and we are recognised for our contributions rather than our gender. I was attracted to join Air Liquide in 2017 due to its stringent process control and ability to produce quality products for the Healthcare industry. Being in Air Liquide where its products and services improve customers’ health fuels me everyday.
It is always a challenge to strike a balance between career demands and family responsibilities. I am appreciative of Air Liquide’s Flexible Work Hours policy which allows me to balance work with family.
The belief that women are less adept at engineering is unfounded. In Air Liquide, female and male engineers are given an equal platform to showcase our talents. I started my career in Air Liquide as an intern back in 2011 and was selected for the International Internship Program (IIP), where I was privileged to work in Paris within the Healthcare division. After graduation, I joined as an Operations Engineer to manage one of our Air Separation plants. Even though it is a male-dominated industry, I work alongside passionate colleagues who are willing to share their knowledge. Despite a tough environment, it brings me immense satisfaction to have contributed to the Group’s achievements. Air Liquide’s usage of digital tools has also enabled me to work from home, which allows me to balance work with family.
My interest in Air Liquide was ignited by my university professor, who shared that his proudest moment as an Engineer, was working for Air Liquide, where he was able to assist in the production of high-purity gases used in the Electronics industry. That sparked my interest to apply for an internship with the Electronics division. After graduation, Air Liquide was my preferred employer as it is the world leader in gases, technologies and services for Industry and Health.
I appreciate the open and nurturing culture which places a lot of trust in employees to work independently. We have our own Air Liquide University which provides learning and development opportunities to build technical expertise and hone our leadership & mentoring skills. Embarking on an engineering career enables me to troubleshoot issues with a systematic approach and it has been a rewarding journey!
