Air Liquide began doing business in South Africa over 60 years ago and today employs more than 800 people. Air Liquide Botswana, which falls under the Air Liquide Southern Africa umbrella, was registered in 1977 and has around 50 employees.
Air Liquide supplies industrial and specialty gases to the steel, automotive & fabrication, food & beverage, mining, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and glass industries. It also supplies medical gases through a network of many state and private hospitals, as well as solutions and services to patients at home.
Air Liquide Southern Africa has been supporting local communities since before Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) became a legislated requirement in terms of the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Code. We have actively supported schools, children’s homes and individuals, because we believe in empowering our communities.
Air Liquide has been at the forefront of assisting non-profit organisations develop to the benefit of disadvantaged communities in our vicinity. In addition, Air Liquide has also created opportunities for individuals to become part of the company's ongoing commitment to the South African economy through learnerships and internships within all divisions of the company.
Other CSR projects include employee development, recruitment of disabled persons and community schools.
Our organisation’s success is powered by our people and the quality of our people is a source of competitive differentiation. Two of the key pillars of people development are based on our golden rules, which are develop people with long-term vision and select the right people for the right position. We attract talent through career fairs at universities, where we represent Air Liquide and discuss career prospects with students.
We also have implemented a vacation program whereby students spend 3 months of their vacation doing in-service projects in operations. Finally, we offer a graduate program to fast track young engineers into management roles within a 5-year period.
