Airgas acquisition

Strong industrial and market logic

Air Liquide’s successful Airgas acquisition contributes to the company’s strategy of profitable growth over the long term. The two businesses are highly complementary, and the acquisition extends Air Liquide’s customer base through a unique, multi-channel distribution network and a nationwide presence in the U.S.

Airgas is the leading supplier of packaged gases and associated products and services in the United States.

A game-changing combination

The combined businesses will generate annual sales of more than €20 billion ($22 billion)1, employ approximately 67,000 people around the world, and serve well over three million customers and patients.

Focus on Airgas and the U.S. market

Airgas was founded in 1982 by Peter McCausland with the purchase of Connecticut Oxygen Corporation, an industrial gas distributor with approximately $4 million in annual sales. Through strategic growth initiatives and more than 400 acquisitions over three decades, Airgas grew to become one of the premier industrial gas companies in the U.S., with annual sales of $5.3 billion for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2016. 

Airgas has established a national network of more than 950 branches spread across 16 distribution regions. The network is comprised of retail locations, cylinder fill plants, gas production facilities, specialty gas laboratories, business support centers and distribution centers.
