This combination allows Air Liquide to offer its innovation capabilities to a broader customer base in the U.S. The combined companies intend to lead the digital transformation of the Industrial Merchant business through enhanced e-commerce and telesales capabilities and new digital offerings.

Airgas was founded in 1982 by Peter McCausland with the purchase of Connecticut Oxygen Corporation, an industrial gas distributor with approximately $4 million in annual sales. Through strategic growth initiatives and more than 400 acquisitions over three decades, Airgas grew to become one of the premier industrial gas companies in the U.S., with annual sales of $5.3 billion for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2016.
Airgas has established a national network of more than 950 branches spread across 16 distribution regions. The network is comprised of retail locations, cylinder fill plants, gas production facilities, specialty gas laboratories, business support centers and distribution centers.
