Career

Karen Katen, a US citizen, is a graduate of the University of Chicago (BA in Political Science and MBA).

In 1974, she joined Pfizer and carried out various management and executive positions during more than 30 years. In her last position with Pfi zer, she was Vice-Chairman of Pfizer Inc. and President of Pfizer Human Health, the Group’s main operating department. Karen Katen played a major role in the introduction of new medicines for the treatment of cardiovascular and mental diseases, as well as diabetes and cancer. She also successfully oversaw the integration of Warner Lambert (acquired in 2000) and Pharmacia (acquired in 2003) in the Pfizer Group. Having retired from Pfizer in March 2007, she was Chairman of the Pfizer Foundation. Currently she is a Senior Advisor at Essex Woodlands Health Ventures, a healthcare venture and growth equity firm.
