Air Liquide: from mastering the air to conquering space

  • Innovation

From October 4 to 12, the French aeronautics and space industry is taking over the Champs Élysées in Paris (France).

To celebrate its 100th anniversary, a large-scale public exhibition has been organized by the GIFAS (French Aeronautics and Space Industry Group).

Air Liquide, a GIFAS member, meets the specific needs of these cutting-edge industries by innovating and constantly pushing back technological frontiers. The Group is involved in this event and will exhibit the OBOGS(*), a system dedicated to the aeronautics industry that enables oxygen to be produced directly in planes. This vital system enables pilots to breathe in complete safety at high altitude.

A partner for nearly 50 years in the space adventure, the Group builds tanks for the ARIANE V launcher and fills them with hydrogen, oxygen and helium on the Kourou site in French Guiana. Air Liquide also puts its expertise to work in cryogenics (extreme cold) by taking part in many scientific programs like the international space station (ISS) and satellites like Planck and Herschel soon to be launched to explore the limits of the universe.

For the aeronautics industry, Air Liquide proposes solutions that provide safety and comfort for passengers onboard aircraft like helicopters (supplying OBIGGS* and personal breathing equipment in particular), as well as equipment for ground applications.

Happy anniversary to the French aeronautics and space industry! Air Liquide is proud to contribute to the development of this high-tech sector.
