Home healthcare: Air Liquide creates EXPLOR!, a center for evaluation of medical equipment

Air Liquide continues to develop new services in home healthcare, as with creation of the EXPLOR! centre, a laboratory that evaluates the medical devices and new technologies used by patients suffering from chronic diseases.

Located in Gentilly in the Paris region, the EXPLOR! center brings together a multidisciplinary team of Air Liquide Healthcare experts (researchers, bio-medical engineers, nurses and technicians) in the fields of ventilation, sleep disorders, oxygen-therapy, perfusion, nutrition and diabetes. The key characteristic of EXPLOR! is that it evaluates the efficacy and comfort of each medical device while taking the many possible patient profiles into account.

EXPLOR! is equipped with test benches and simulation equipment. These evaluation tools are developed in collaboration with medical doctors and university researchers to analyse and compare the performance of medical devices. For instance, these tools enable to evaluate and compare behaviour of different ventilators used in treatment of respiratory failure and the consequences of these reactions on the patient. The tests also enable to evaluate the ergonomics of medical devices to facilitate daily use of the equipment by the patient (noise, ease of use, bulkiness, reliability, mobility).
