Air Liquide is proud to have supported the environmental ambitions of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 by supplying hydrogen of renewable origin for the event's official fleet. The Group, which also provided financial support to six athletes for their participation in the Paris 2024 Games, is delighted to be leaving the Ile-de-France region a solid legacy for the development of hydrogen mobility.
Hydrogen refueling stations in full swing
Thanks to the network of around ten stations made available to Paris 2024 for the duration of the event, showcased by the hydrogen station located at Place de l'Alma in Paris, Air Liquide was able to refuel 500 Toyota Mirai vehicles with hydrogen of renewable origin to transport the accredited guests, as well as 5 buses to transport athletes between the Athletes' Village and the competition and ceremony sites.
Air Liquide supplied nearly 12 tonnes of hydrogen, enabling these vehicles to cover more than 1 million kilometers over the period.
The infrastructures deployed on this occasion and the organization put in place will benefit the region beyond the event itself.
Hydrogen to support the cell phone network
360 kg of hydrogen of renewable origin were used to power 5 electro-hydrogen generators at the Versailles and Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines competition venues.
Supplied by Loxam and GL events, respectively Official Supporter and Official Partner of Paris 2024, these generators were used to increase local electrical capacity to enable operation of the cell phone network antennas during the equestrian, modern pentathlon and golf events held at these venues.
Mascots in the spotlight on a hydrogen vehicle
The opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games also put the spotlight on hydrogen, as the evening kicked off following the remarkable entry of a car covered in mascots and fuelled by Air Liquide hydrogen.
A winning Air Liquide team
More than 1,000 Air Liquide employees have been mobilized to bring this partnership to life, before and during the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024. Their contribution was key during this XXXIII Olympiad to highlighting the crucial role of hydrogen in the energy transition. This success was made possible thanks to Paris' visionary approach to making these Games a responsible event, Toyota's involvement alongside us, and the remarkable commitment of Air Liquide's teams.
Finally, the team of Air Liquide athletes is also very proud to have brought home some fine medals:
